Arachnids: Argiope garden spider

2010-07-17 - Photo by Brent Thompson. Adair Co., KY
"This garden spider has a web outside our basement door," writes Brent Thompson with this great shot capturing the Agriope Aurantia's graceful ambulation.. "She's getting bigger everyday!" These beautiful spiders are highly prized in this area. Around Gradyville, KY, one has bragging rights when a garden spider builds a web in every windowlight. The non-poisonous creatures don't ordinarily bite humans, but, if they do, it's a good idea to get medical attention, just in case of mis-identification. Wikipedia's entry says the Garden Spider is also called "Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Writing Spider, Banana Spider or Corn Spider." ColumbiaMagazine.com Group at Flickr.com. The ColumbiaMagazine.com Garden Spider Album only has six photos and three stories on Garden Spiders, well short of what's needed. To see the links, including one to Barbara Armitage's classic "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," click on Garden Spiders
