Betty Sue Jasper receives plaque honoring her father

Betty Sue Jasper receives a plaque honoring her father, the late Earl Conover, from her magistrate, Danny Goodin (First District), at the Tuesday. April 13, 2010 regular meeting of Adair Fiscal Court. The plaque is in recognition of Adair County's only known survivor of the Bataan Death March, 68 years ago during World War II, Adair County Judge Ann Melton said in announcing the presentation. The plaque reads, "Presented to Betty Sue Jasper, in revered recognition of her father, EARL CONOVER, an Adair County survivor of the Bataan Death March of World War II. Sixty-Eighth Anniversary 2010." A few Adair Countians alive today can remember the homecoming event when Earl Conover returned to Columbia in 1945. It is said to have been the largest crowd ever to assemble in Downtown Columbia.
