A memento from the Philippines, World War II

2010-01-11 - Philippine Islands - Photo from the collection of Geniece Marcum. A memento from the Philippine Islands and WWII shows two lovely Filipino women in what appears to be a lush garden spot. Evidently they were reading, as just above the blossoms a book or maybe a letter is being held by the one who is seated. One can only wonder why the women would chose an outdoor setting such as this for reading. Perhaps it was a quiet refuge for them in the midst of war. The photo was among souviners belonging to S/Sgt. Earl Reid Marcum, deceased, of Sulphur Well, Kentucky who served in the Philippine Islands during WWII. -Geniece Marcum
