Kentucky Color: Smoky Mountains North

2009-10-20 - Antioch, Top of Wheeler Hill, Intersection of KY 68 and Ky 768, Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge. "I thought this was a spectacular view of the Green River Knob, the blue triangle in the very center of the picture, which is itself located where Casey, Russell, and Pulaski Counties come together," writes Billy Joe Fudge. "The elevation is about 1080 feet where I was standing just East of Highland Raku Studio at the intersection of Hwy 61 and 768. The Green River Knob is over 1500 feet elevation and over 25 miles in the distance. The view is looking across the Flatwoods, Gadberry, Northern Russell County, and the Southern tip of Casey County. The Knob is just northwest of Nancy, KY. The fog bank was generated by the warmer than air waters of massive Lake Cumberland and then carried north by a gentle breeze."
