Historic picture being hung at Ol Joes B&B Que

2009-10-17 - 824 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY - Photo CM photo of photo in frame. The latest picture to go into the Gallery of History at Ol' Joe's B&B Que, 824 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY, is this one of of the all-time favorite citizens and perhaps the most quoted citizens of Adair County ever. The photo, Joe L. Barbee says, was taken in the Old Adair County Courthouse just after its renovation. "You can tell by the wainscoting," he said. Bill Beard's most quoted quote, one every Adair Countian is born with hardwired in his or her brain, is the directions he is said to have given to the foreigner - from off person - who asked directions to Greensburg. Bill is said to have said, pointing to an option, "Some go that way," and then, pointing to the other, "some go that way. And I don't give a damn which way you go." In legend, the directions were given on the Public Square in Downtown Columbia or alternately, and as most frequently told, at now a part of history Y at the junction of Greensburg Street and Hudson Street, and the traveller was asking the way to Columbia. There are over 100 photos adorning the walls of the barbecue restaurant. More people still attend the twice monthly openings on the first and third weekends for the barbecue than anything else, but the photos are at least in third place as a magnet, after the food and the old stories - many of them true - being rehashed there. The restaurant is open today, Saturday, October 17, 2009.
