Columbia, KY, optometrist Dr. Max Downey, treasurer and fundraiser for Homeplace on Green River, examines the tiny leaves of the great Winged Elm on the Homeplace Farm. The Winged Elm is the largest of its species in all the State of Kentucky. Dr. Downey's residence is 7 miles, four hours by river from the Homeplace, but less than three miles, four minutes by car.
