Scenic Adair Co., KY: Hardscratch Grocery has it all

2009-06-10 - 7289 Hwy 55 S. Road, Columbia, KY Glensfork community - Photo by Pen.
Glensfork, Glens Fork, Glenville, or Hardscratch - Whatever you choose to call it, has it all. The secular hub of the community is the Hardscratch General Store, above, where Proprietor Ken Hill carries on in the great tradition of the Aaron Bros. and Dwayne Loy, and more. Hill, a retired Kentucky State Policeman, has built the store into a great social and dining center. He started a tradition of having fish fries on the Last Friday of Each Month, and now, the event, which draws as many as 200 diners, is expanded to the second and fourth Fridays - June 12 and 26, 2009, this month. The store was one of the first to have an Address Marker. "I'll never forget how hard it was to respond to a break-in or robbery in progress, only to have the biggest problem to be simply finding the location," Mr. Hill said. The scene above is looking north, toward Zion, Longview, and Columbia, KY. Permalink | Comments?
