CHARGES and COUNTER CHARGES in the Tomato War now have these two old allies hurling charges and countercharges, with friend pitted against friend, friends of both torn by the contoversy and many hoping for someone of the wisdom of the late Dr. Neat, varmintologist to settle the matter, others pray that Judge Jimmy or Judge Mike will issue a judicial decision? Who had the first ripe tomato in the county in 2009? Barbara Armitage, who sent "photographic proof," above, of her crop, or A.L. Sinclair, left, whose "eye-witness" is no less than Willie Matt Feese, Jr. Barbara's claim is that her red ripe tomato, in an earlier photograph, was picked Derby Day, 2009. While A.L. says he ate ripe tomatoes picked from his garden with his wife on May 1, 2009.
