Mary Allender: 911Coordinator of the year

MARY ALLENDER, Adair County 911 Coordinator for the past 12 years, is the only person ever to hold the post, but she was surprised Tuesday night, April 14, 2009, when Dispatcher Jean Corbin presented her with the plaque naming her "2009 911 Coordinator of the Year," a tribute they meant to be signfy "Coordinator of the Year for anywhere on the Planet Earth." Allender has been responsible for coordinating addresses, mapping the county, and continuously updating the system to allow the nation's top emergency response service to function so well Clicking Read More acceseses the Adair County Fiscal Court meeting report for April 14, 2009, with links to photos from the meeting.

IMPROVING EMERGENCY RESPONSE: A big aim, for Allender, 911, and emergency responders to to improve public safety by achieving 100% compliance with the program to have reflective street numbers at all residences, churches, schools, playing fields, colleges, and cemeteries. For those who do not know their street number, they can call Mrs. Allender at (270) 384-4760. Reflective signs are available at the office of Adair County Sheriff Ralph Curry, in the old Courthouse at 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY. for $10 each. Proceeds from the fundraiser go entirely to the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, which furnishes the supplies. The program was initiated when Allender was Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce.
