Cat and Mouse, by Kristi Keene

2009-03-28 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Kristi Keene.
SO MANY HAVE ASKED WHAT THESE ARE. The answer has arrived from cyberspace, courtesy a most valued reader and contributed. "They are Netsukes," writes Frank Dickerson, Pellytonian now part of the great Adair County Diaspora. He now lives somewhere in California. He continues, "Fine examples of Japanese Netsuke carvings. Very collectible for those with an appetite for such artifacts." The information was received at 9:22amCT, March 29, 2009. Our thanks to Mr. Dickerson At 11:21, Sunday, March 29, 2009, Kristy Keene wrote to clarify the cutline more: "This particular cat and mouse set actually are not made from ivory, but from a ceramic material. The head of the cat and mouse can be removed to reveal a little secret bowl inside. I use them to put my rings in when I am washing the dishes. They are about two inches tall and made in the UK. I saw these on my step-mother's desk at work and fell in love with them. Unfortunately, she doesn't remember where she bought them." So the objects are not exactly netsukes, but are probably based on the whimsical Japanese carvings.
