Columbia-Adair County Airport BD receives $65,000 KY check 2009-03-16 - Adair Annex Building 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. ADAIR COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD CHAIRMAN JOHN RAREY and ADAIR COUNTY JUDGE EXECUTIVE ANN MELTON hold a check for $65,000, issued March 6, 2009, by the Kentucky State Treasurer to go toward the the cost of the recently completed 10-plane hangar at the airport. The money had been promised in the last days of the Gov. Ernie Fletcher Administration, and was, initially stopped by the current administration, but, on orders from Gov. Beshear, was re-instated. Mr. Rarey announced at the press conference held Monday, March 15, 2009, at 4:00pmCT that the paving around the hangar is complete at a cost of around $40,000. The board received gifts of $10,000 from the Adair Fiscal Court and the Columbia City Council. Mr. Rarey said concrete was used because of its longer life expectancy and the fact that recent surges in the cost of blacktop meant the more durable material concrete cost only a few dollars more.
