Scenic Adair Co., KY: Courthouse from Turner Building

2009-02-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
SHAMARIE CLAIBORNE wonders, with the rest of the community, what the future holds for the Historic Adair County Courthouse, the most county's famous icon, after the new Adair Justice Center is open sometime in the fall of this year. "From this angle it looks as if the court house watches over the community," she writes. "I know we need the new justice center building, but it is a little sad that this old building will soon just be a towing reminder of days gone by." The photo is taken from the J.L. Turner Building on the LWC campus on Lindsey Wilson Street. In a few days, the public may learn if negotiations between Adair Fiscal Court and the college will result in a closer College/Downtown Connection. Suggestions have been that the courtroom might serve as a laboratory/classroom for criminal justice classes and that there might be a bookstore and sandwich shop in the building, among other uses.
