Posted: No Centipedes welcome in The Holler!

2009-01-05 - The Holler, Old Clearsprings Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
Shamarie got photographic evidence of this unwelcome visitor in The Holler, and writes, "We are used to critters in the holler but last night we had one I personally hate.... a centipede..." And no wonder! Look at that thing, impudently mocking the photographer in all its menacing frightfulness. There is a reason for all creatures, perhaps. But someone with a different theology than our own should explain what's the good pf a creature which consumes earthworms, has a stinger, indulges in what would appear to be joyless procreation, and has cousins which eat toads and catches bats in flight and eats them. The presence of this one is not enough to shut down the Tourism Commission, but if it ever mates with an Amazonian variety, it could be a terror, even to Keith's calves. Besides, who could love anybody who eats their own legs. -CM. See "Centipede" in Wikipedia A Today Feature picture.
