Six firefighters + passing hero save house from grass fire

2009-01-02 - Taylor Ford Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Six Adair County Firemen and a passing hero saved the home of Christy Burton, upper right, from a grass fire this afternoon, Friday, January 2, 2009, at around 4:00pmCT. The first person to come to the aid Mrs Burton was Nick Wortham, who was on his way to celebrate his birthday today. Mr. Wortham, owner of Columbia's Donut Express, beat back the fire using a wet blanket. "But," he said, pointing to Chris Bragg on the back of Grass Truck #127, "I couldn't have stopped it without those fellows." Those fellows included, lower right, in Grass Truck #127, Driver Tommy Corbin and fellow firefighters, Wayne Ray in the co-pilot's seat, and on right, back seat, Justin Bailey, and Bradley Caldwell. Fireman Mike Keltner was on his way back from his Air-Evac job in Liberty, KY, and arrived in the red truck in the foreground. Firefighter Chris Bragg also arrived by private pickup.
