Picture from the Past: Mr. Jack White, Mr. Walter Bowen

2009-01-01 - Columbia, KY - Photo from the Joe Barbee B&B Que picture gallery.
"No Adair Countian personified New Year's Day more than the late Mr. Walter Bowen, right, pictured above in the late 1950's with Mr. Jack White, who travelled with Mr. Bowen in the latter's job as a sales rep for Bob White Syrup. Mr. Bowen always celebrated New Year's Day with a roasted goose, and frequently invited my father, the late E.P. Waggener, to join at table on New Year's Days. Mr. Bowen's house was midway up Jamestown Hill and still stands today. Mr. White drove the grand, four door black Fleetwood Cadillac Mr. Bowen owned. The residence had a Bob White Syrup sign in the front yard, and there was a plaque on the deck of the Cadillac advertising the syrup, as well. When Mr. Bowen was questioned about spoiling the appearance of the wonderful machine with "the pigeon," by those who couldn't afford a Fleetwood, he always laughed and told them 'that bird paid for that Cadillac!'." Robert Flowers wrote that Jack White is the grandfather of Lisa Lasley, Sweet Pea, Brian, amd Yves White. Terrence Bridgewaters reminds us that Mr. White is also the grandfather of Troy and Shawn White. -ED WAGGENER
