Doyle Lloyd of Adairband.com found this Linda Waggener photo from and old Columbia, KY, Daily Statesman newspaper. He didn't tell the date, but the inset puts the time in the early 1980s, during the Reign of the late Good Mayor Coy Downey. With him is one of the all time respected civic leaders, the late Bill Walker. There have been a lot of changes in Columbia since that time. Barger Insurance is now moved to another quadrant of the Square, and Vision Communication is now in that building. The vacant lot was owned by the Bank of Columbia and was later sold to the Adair County Fiscal Court and is the site of the Adair Annex, dedicated to the memory of Bill Walker. In the far background is the old WPA building which once housed the County Garage, and importantly, was once the Greyhound bus station--maybe was then--where Mrs.Tarter sold tickets for the twice daily trips to Louisville and points in between on a route through Campbellsville, Lebanon, Springfield, and Bardstown. The Adair Regional Jail had not be built at the time. The photographer is now a city official herself, a Columbia City Councillor, and is still taking photographs, but now for the 24/7/365 ColumbiaMagazine.com.
