A Yard Sale with unusual plants for sale

2008-10-02 - 804 Russell Road, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
MELVIN C. BRANHAM may have one of the most unusual items for sale at any yard sale in Adair County: Prickly pears. The containers are priced at $3.00 per nopale or pad; the one in the foreground would be $9.00, he said. "And that's cheap," he said. "A fellow came by and told me that some places they get $27.00 for just one blade." The plantings have a great tradition. They come from the giant 40' in diameter plant in his front yard. He originally got a planting from Rosetta Stotts on Meatskin Road and has taken plantings with him in five different moves. A Today Feature photo
