Butterflies: Elusive orange butterfly lands

2008-08-17 - KY 206 near Shepherd Water Tower, District 1, Adair County, KY - Photo By Betty Sue Jasper.

WHEN BETTY SUE JASPER sent us the incredibly detailed photo of the monster bug identified by biologist Alan Reed as a Robber Fly, whose table manners would have shocked Bram Stoker, she was really after this gorgeous butterfly. She writes: Here is the butterfly I was speaking of in my last picture and you can see he is ready to fly away from me before I can get that picture I am wanting! The sun was too high causing shadows and the wind was too strong causing his little wings to flutter and this little guy was in too much of a hurry to pose for me for very long! So I am going outside now to see if he is back today! Many wonder how Betty Sue Jasper is able to improve on perfection, but somehow she always does, with ever more stellar work. If there is a butterfly fancier out there, who'd be willing the science details, it would be appreciated. Flickr. A Today, Monday, August 18, 2008 Today's Picture Album photo
