Insects of Adair Co., KY: Argiope spider spinning web

2008-08-16 - Montpelier Area, Adair County, KY - Photo By Heidi Caron.
HEIDI CARON captured this incredibly detailed picture of one of Adair County's most beautiful insects, the wonderful Argiope spider. This one was at work in the window of her husband's pickup, she says. The spiders are often called garden spiders, and are prized by many for their bad bugacidability. Gradyville Argiope fanciers say it is a good sign if, in the fall, one finds an Argiope in every window. Vonnie Kolbenschlag points out that this spider is also known as the "Writing Spider," because it's web looks like cursive writing. We've had other photos of the beautiful arachnids, but never one so pretty.
