Reminder of bygone days

"A cool drink of water in the middle of a tobacco patch. All that is missing is a bologna sandwich!," writes photographer Melissa Taylor after finding this reminder of a now rare, but very commonplace rural scene in Adair County 60 years ago, before the days of rural waterification. Flickr. (When the photo first arrived, in a packet with "The Gifts of Gradyville" essay, the first notion was that it was the well which once was the Gradyville Water Department: the town well across Main Street in Old Gradyville from Hob Walker's store; that well, unfortunately, is long gone, but Gradyville is undergoing a bit of a renaissance, as memories of it's greatness as a place for kids is being re-examined.
