Larry Smith Photos from the Past: Back in the 50s

2008-04-22 - Main Street, Campbellsville, KY - Photo From the collection of Larry Smith.
LARRY SMITH, NEWS ANCHOR at FM 92.7 The WAVE, sent this grand old photo from the Magically wonderful Old Main Street, Campbellsville, KY, looking east. The photo appears to be from the 1950s, from the look of the 1951 Ford, the Buick, and the Edsel by the Young's Jeweler sign on the left. The mileage sign is a reminder to Columbians who went to Louisville via Campbellsville in those days that Campbellsville had a reputation for tough traffic just as Columbia of today is world famous for its tie-ups. KY 55 in those days included Main Street, Campbellsville, KY, in those days, back before Broadway was built and before we put olive oil and salt on our toast, back in the days when all anybody needed in life was within four or five blocks of this sign: When you could be born at Rosary Hospital, buy groceries at Kroger, find salvation at Big B, graduate from Campbellsville High School and Campbellsville College, work on Main Street, buy all your clothes, place an ad in the newspaper or on WTCO, eat all your meals out at a variety of restaurants rivalling 4th Street in Louisville, do all your banking, clothes buyiing, auto shopping, mailing, even buy your Oldsmobile, and have your funeral and get buried right in few blocks of downtown Main Street in Campbellsville, KY. Scroll to the End of the feature for Today's Photo Album."
