Springtime Redbud beauty from three directions on Hurt Street

2008-04-11 - Hurt Street, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
REDBUD BEAUTY. Drivers on Hurt Street, the main shortcut from Downtown Columbia to Uptown Jamestown Street, are treated to what may be Columbia's most spectacular display of spring color - at least of pinks - at the home of Diane and Robert Benningfield, located on Hurt Street at it's T with Montgomery Avenue. This view is from the Jamestown Street side, but it is equally attractive from Guardian Street; coming over the hill on Montgomery Avenue offers a special eye candy treat. The large tree is a Hoshino Cherry. The darker redbuds in the photo are just now coming into full bloom. Columbia and Adair County's redbud forest got a boost on Monday when 2,000 seedlings were handed out at the Chamber of Commerce. Executive Director Sue Stivers said the seedlings were gone in an hour and a half. "Everybody loves the redbuds," she said.
