Kentucky sunsets: Black Gnat, KY by Larry Smith

2008-01-13 - Photo By Larry Smith.
SUNSET AT FAMOUS BORDER TOWN: Larry Smith captured this beautiful scene at the Black Gnat city limits recently. The photo is taken from the east side of town, looking toward a fabulous Green County sunset. Black Gnat could best be described as Kentucky's answer to Texarkana, which is also in two counties, Bowie, TX, and Miller, AR, though Texarkana does not have the spectacular views toward Adair County afforded from Black Gnat's 846 feet elevation. Black Gnat stretches from inside Taylor across the border into Green, along US 68. Fewer Adair Countians are acquainted with Black Gnat than should be the case, as it is only 16 air miles from Columbia, but, because of Green River, a motorist leaving Columbia has to travel one and one-half times that far, reaching Black Gnat only afer fighting urban traffic in either Greensburg or Campbellsville. The photographer, Larry Smith, covers many more counties from his post as news anchor at The WAVE, FM 92.7.
