Adair County get-together: A rafter of turkeys

2007-08-18 - Adair County, KY - Photo By Shamarie Claiborne,.
COUNT THEM: 13, A BAKER OR ROASTER'S DOZEN, not counting the ones hidden in the bushes, in this rafter of turkeys captured this morning, Saturday, August 18, 2007, in this snapshot of the plentiful wildlife in Adair County. Shamarie Claiborne wrote in her caption, "This was taken in the Holler this morning. They were headed to the creek for a drink," but did not specify where the wily birds went after that, in case anyone remembers that Thanksgiving is just a few months off. As plentiful as they are, not so many turkeys are taken in hunts in Adair County. According to the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Telecheck, the spring harvest was just 275 birds, surely a disappointing reduction to agri-businessman J.C. Lasley, who farms in the suburbs of Flatwoods, and who'd ruther not have the seed-corn burgling thieves on his place, Benjamin Franklin or no.
