Calling all spiderologists: Need ID for cigarette pack sized spider

2007-08-01 - Jericho, KY - Photo By Shamarie Claiborne, special to ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Photographer and web site designer Shamarie Claiborne sent this downright scary photo and writes: "It was as big as a cigarette pack. We found it on our farm. Thought you might want to put it on the mag. The question is, what kind is it??"
Thanks, Photographer Claiborne. This is a time that cries out for someone with the wisdom of the late Billy K. Neat, Doctor of Varmintology. Bet most Adair Countians have seen them beady yellow eyes before and wondered if the gargantuan creature were a puppy-swallowing monster or a nice, housepet type bad insect eradicator. Any help from bona fide arachnologists, amateur or professional offering pro bono advice, will be appreciated. -CM
