There was plenty of entertainment, some straight from Nashville, at the Slinker-Burton Huge Cookout. Above, Rita Jane Burton, the Mayor's sister-in-law, made the hills come alive with the sound of music. The out door pavillion was a perfect venue for her. Clockwise, upper left, are (some waiting to sing) Carol Cowan, Dolly Burton (Frankie's Aunt), Karen Burton, Roger Burton, Murrell Burton, Laymon Norris, Paula Fulp. Behind Rita Jane is Jean Burton. The music stand/buffet line on ordinary days is the location of Mayor Burton's back office, and is fitted with a hammock.
