Veterans: Kenneth Scott discovers a hero among us

"Second to None" Before Kenneth Scott dug deeper into his 2nd Division Annual the Veterans Listing on ColumbiaMagazine.com for Adair Countian John Humkey read only, "Sgt. John Humkey," Korean War. Scott also saw service with the Second Division in Korea, and has a Division Annual from those days. He became aware that Humkey had also been in the Second Division and scanned the book more carefully to find a very special entry in the section on Silver Star holders. The Medal is awarded for gallantry in action. And there was the entry for Columbia's John Humkey. The ColumbiaMagazine.com entry now reads "John E. Humkey, Korean War. Awarded Silver Star for gallantry in action," as it should.
