Judge Ann Melton and Administrative Assistant Lisa Lee visited the work site this morning on Paradise Lane, where the Adair County Road Department was putting the Athey Force Fee loader to work for the first time. The loader arrived at the county barn Friday, May 25, 2007. The $49,000 machine is a reconditioned 1986 model. New ones cost $150,000 she said. Judge Melton said the situation is one where spending a little money now will save thousands next year, and give better, safer roads year-round in Adair County. When the county buys the machine, as she thinks it will, they will have the cash. "We're tight when it comes to the county's money," she said. "I'm so stingy we share toilet paper in the courthouse."
