The work is being done on Paradise Lane, in Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey's District 5. Paradise Lane generally parallels the Columbia Adair County Airport and Lampton Lane and is accessed from Lampton Lane via Short Lane. Aptly named, it is one of Columbia's best kept secrets. While much of the road is blacktop, this stretch is chip-and-seal. "Much of the maintenance we have to do is because county roads don't have ditches," Judge Melton said. "Flooding and thawing and freezing just peel the blacktop and chip-and-seal right off. We'll save a lot of money and have better roads when we get them all ditched," she said.
