No one got more applause than Curtis Hardwick, former Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick got when his name was mentioned from the platform during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Western Bypass around Adair County. Hardwick never let the Governor, Cabinet Secretary Bill Nighbert, or Commissioner Williams forget how important the bypass is to Columbia, since joining the Fletcher Administration. Harwick is shown here before the ceremonies got underway. Behind him, the Best Band in the Kentucky, winner of 17 state championships in the last 19 years, gets instruction from Band Director Tim Allen.
