Moores Store : A 49 year old, one-time institution, is gone

2006-11-23 - West Page ST & Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY - Photo Ed Waggener.
EVEN THIS IS GONE NOW Not much of what is seen in the photo taken Wednesday evening, November 22, 2006, above, is left today on the site of what was Moore's Store, an institution in the Russell Heights area for years. Today the slightly less than one-half acre lot is nearly clear, after four days work by Jeff Hatcher, the contractor in charge of razing the building. Thomas and Tootie Moore built the store in 1957. Mrs. Moore died in 1980. The store was closed after Thomas Moore's death in 1997. Thousands will remember the cold drinks, Snickers bars, and great fresh-cut sandwiches the Moores sold, when the store was as much a center of the community as the mission church. Sharon Feese, one of the heirs - along with Sandy Wilkinson, Melissa Carter, Karen Page, and Darren Moore - said that the lot will likely be auctioned soon. Watch of one of her photos of the store in its glory days.
