Where there's smoke, there isn't always fire

Ladder Truck No. 1 isn't fighting a fire, though real smoke is streaming from the windows of the former Adair Florist Building on Merchant Street and the lights on the bucket give the appearance of flames. Firemen from all over Adair County took advantage of a training opportunity last night, Wednesday, October 19, at the old Adair Florist house, which is soon to be razed. Adair County VFD Fireman Terry Flatt is operating the ladder in a simulated rescue operation. Assistant Columbia Chief Charles Sparks, who is also Deputy State Fire Marshal, set up the curriculum for the session. Over 100 people took advantage of the chance to experience some exciting sight seeing. Free.
