First Realty Building disassembled, ready for move

2006-10-14 - First Realty Building, Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
COLUMBIA CONTRACTOR WILL REASSEMBLE THE BUILDING ON FAIRGROUND ST
Mark Hatcher of Mark Hatcher Construction Co., Columbia, KY, was providing a show on Campbellsville as exciting in its own way as the Folklore of the Old West fall festival on the Square. In the background, his crew was loading the last truss from First Realty & Auction Company and Sign America building on Campbellsville Street. When Hatcher finishes today, only the front gable facade and the outside walls will be left, he said. The neatly stacked, nailed-together and lashed rafters will be move to the new site on Fairground ST, just beyond Hancock Furniture. It will be a few weeks before the building is reassembled, Hatcher. said. His crews are busy building six houses and remodelling the former Meadow Hill Inn/Walker Florist Building which is the new home of First Realty & Auction Service and Sign America. Hatcher said that many of the cars passing had slowed to a near stop to watch the activities. The demolition and owner-salvage work is preceding the next phase for the new Adair Justice Center: Lot clearance, site preparation, and construction. Much of another building on the Justice Center Site, the Adair Florist building on Merchant ST has saved before the site is razed. However, theAdair Muffler shop, occupying the third lot being purchased for the new courthouse, is still virtually intact, awaiting the wrecking ball looking much as it has all along.
