Walking stick: Gradyville bug is big guy

2006-09-22 - Gradyville, KY - Photo CM staff. THIS BIG BUG is a walking stick, varieties of which are the longest insects in the United States, several sites indicate. This one in the Greater Gradyville area is downright boring in its behavior. It's a docile, easy going creature, unlike that other long Adair County insect, the praying mantis. A praying mantis can inflict pincer pain, and is carnivorous. This guy feeds on leaves. This one was lost on the side of a building, but in the grass or feeding, he's well camouflaged, despite his exaggerated Studebaker look, which makes it hard to tell whether he is coming or going. This one appears to have its anterior legs folded forward, headed downhill. To see it in another setting, underway, Click Here.
