Adair WWII Navy veteran visits Battleship Texas

2006-08-10 - Battleship USS Texas - Photo by Mitchell McKinley. Adair County World War II Navy veteran L.G. "Peanut" McKinley was a recent visitor to the USS Texas, La Porte, Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico. The battleship is the only one to serve in both World War I and World War II. McKinley served in the Navy in the South Pacific, and was able to recall, for his son, much of the nomenclature for the components of the ship. The ship is now part of the Texas Navy. McKinley is active in local veterans affairs, including membership in Columba VFW Post 6097.
