Adair County Gothic: Neat new cabin at Milltown

2006-07-29 - Milltown, KY - Photo CM staff. TWO of ADAIR COUNTIES MOST INVENTIVE PEOPLE, Diane and Randy Young, Milltown, are now building made to order cabins, cleverly designed to have a chinked log look. This one is their sixth, and is being built beside their home on Highway 61 across from Milltown Road. The structures sit on proper Adair County stacked rock pillars. They measure 20'x20' for a rather commodious 400 square feet inside and this one, which they are building for themselves, has a porch. The white siding is headboard. The chinked log look is achieved by nailing evenly spaced rough planks on; there is no actual chinking, and the translucent headboard allows a lot of light inside. The Youngs have a portfolio of pictures of five their earlier buildings with different exterior looks. The Youngs charge $7-8,000 for similarly sized buildings built on he customer's lot. Young says the buildings have served lots of purposes, from hunting cabins to spare bedrooms to sulking rooms when spouses get mad. This building is for storage. The Youngs also operate flea market stores and mobile concession stands. The new trailer in the background serves a variety of foods and will be towed to auctions and other special events. They were on their way to the annual US 127 Yard Sale right after the picture was taken.
