Orby milks the Mayfield Cow

2006-07-01 - Jamestown & Hurt Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff. ORBY YARBERRY was persuaded to take time away from his busy produce stand to try his hand milking the Mayfield Cow, now on display in front of Columbia Food Center in the Columbia Shopping Center parking lot. Yarberry said he has milked a many a cow in bygone times--as many as a dozen by hand when he was a boy, and 75-80 with a milking machine later when he was in the dairy business in a serious way. Over at the produce stand he and his wife Lucy run, which is located beside Jamestown ST in front of Wal-Mart, Yarberry has fresh corn, beans, tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, potatoes and squash. All homegrow, he says, none of this brought-on stuff. His own garden is not in yet, he notes. This produce is farm grown a few secret counties away.
