2006 Gradyville Oilfield: Hamlett strike said to be fed by three streams

2006-06-23 - Gradyville, KY - Photo Daril Salyers.

Another great well on the Willie Nell, now Ricky and Barry Hamlett, Place?

It could be one of the great strikes. The very promising oil strike was made Thursday, June 22, 2006, on the Ricky and Barry Hamlett farm at Gradyville, KY, by Jimmy Reliford Drilling Co., Sparksville, KY, owner of the lease with For Real Enterprises, owned by Larry Smith of California. Three crews are coming in Monday to install storage tanks and put the wells on pump, at which time the rate of production can be more accurately predicted. Many oil people believe the signs point to 50-60 barrels a day. The well is on the Willie Nell Place, not far from the legendary Willie Nell Oil Well, one of the longest producing wells in Kentucky. According to Ricky Hamlett, the well was mapped and showed oil streamng in from three fractures It was an exciting enough time in Gradyville yesterday that Daril Salyers, co-proprietor of D & F Grocery, in Gradyville, took time off to see and photograph the historic event. For those unfamiliar with the area, the well is less than one mile south of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway at about the 42-43 mile markers. In the photo above are, from left, Joey Keith, Larry Reliford, Hardy (), Barry Hamlett, and Jonathan Burris.
