Portland Oil Field: Brent Yates & Speedy, the Oil Dog

2005-12-23 - Portland, Northwestern Adair CO, KY - Photo Staff. The sign on the doghouse says, "Yates & Yates, We dig oil," The two Yates are Brent, above, and his father Don, the fourth and fifth generations in the family. Crit Yates was the first Yates in the business. He was followed by C.C. Yates, and then came Don's father, the late Hugh Yates. If Brent's son follows the family business, he would be the sixth Yates generation of drillers. Brent is holding Speedy, the Oil Dog who is the Yates designated superintendent on the Shorty and Jimmy Rodgers lease. Yates & Yates blew in a new well there today.
