Bank of Columbia Robbery not in this quadrant

2005-10-16 - The Square, Columbia, KY - Photo Courtesy Paul Saeli collection. Author Paul Saeli of West Seneca, NY, sent this photo with the following question. He wrote, "Was the Bank ofColumbia, the one robbed by the boys, located to the far left in the 'Columbia, south corner' ?" This is a great photo, which was the inspiration for a Pat Bell watercolor. It shows a gas pump on The Square in the left side of the photo, and it shows what may have been the most handsome facade ever in downtown, the original First National Bank Building, second building from the left. But it is not the quadrant of the Square in which the bank robbed by the James-Younger Gang was located, according to local authority on the subject Charles Grimsley.
