A bit of history discovered as Arnold building is painted

2005-07-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo Linda Waggener. A BIT OF HISTORY WAS DISCOVERED earlier this month when Ben and Margaret Arnold put a crew to work cleaning and painting their building on the corner of Burkesville Street and the Public Square. If you look closely at the inset above right, you can make out the old Dr. Pepper sign from the wall facing the Bank of Columbia which had once advertised the local bottler. Columbia had a Dr. Pepper Bottling Company through the 50s and 60s located where the parking lot is now behind Walker Realty. Next time you drive by, you'll find the old building has a fresh, new coat of peach color paint and is looking good. Mayor Bell is encouraging cleaning up buildings and grounds in the city. Hopefully one of the things soon to be on the city's agenda will be burying of the power lines and getting rid of all the poles and cables that mar the landscape.
