1997-09-15 - Photo Staff. The 1947-48 Columbia High School Redhounds. From left, Coach John Burr, Billy Keys, Sammy Wilson, Hollis Watson, Clyde Bryant, Morris T. Keys, Austin Finn, Charles Marshall, and Tommy Matthews. Matthews was also valedictorian of his graduating class. "We didn't get out of the district tournament that year," the photo owner, Charles Marshall said. "But the next year we went to the regional tournament at Ft. Knox as winners of the district." Mr. Burr later took two Adair County High School teams, in 1955 and 1956, to the State Tournament. Some notes on some of the players: Clyde Bryant went on to play for the University of Louisville. Charles Marshall was later a Courier-Journal All-State Honorable Mention player. He married Yvonne Lawhor, , was a noted cinema exhibitor and cable entrepreneur. Morris T. Keys went on to sing on WTCO in Campbellsville, worked in Louisville; retired well, and does pretty much as he pleases today. This item first appeared in Issue 16 of the print edition of Columbia! Magazine.
