City of Columbia offices are closed today and Mayor Pam Hoots is remembering quotes by the murdered Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr for whom the holiday is named.

His quotes emphasize justice, love, nonviolence, and hope, including, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
