WWII Veteran Graybeal turns 100 years old

2025-12-02 - Taylor County, KY - Photo from personal collection.
WWII Veteran Sargent Willie Bearl Graybeal turned 100 years old this year. He is pictured with his nephew, Chris Graybeal of Campbellsville, at a recent visit in Corbin. Chris said his uncle Willie spoke clearly of memories of World War II. One memory that stood out brought to mind the difference in the timing of communications between WWII days and those writing from the battlefield now. The Sergent said it could be up to a month and a half before a letter could reach home back then, as opposed to today with electronic communications, happening in mere seconds. We thank Sgt. Graybeal and all who have served this country in U.S. history.
