Leaving a legacy
2022-07-15 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. John Walker and his wife Marcia came from Frankfort to the Adair County Genealogy and History Center recently to participate in an audio creation of memories of his father, Pete Walker. Working with Mike Watson, he answered questions and shared memories of growing up in Columbia and of his family. The Genealogy Center has new recording equipment and encourages any interested families to make arrangements for documentation.

Mysterious volunteer
2022-07-15 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. I discovered this volunteer plant where no garden had ever been - no idea what brought the seed to this spot. I'm not sure whether the pretty yellow flower indicates a squash of some kind or cucumber. If any CM gardener recognizes it, I'd appreciate knowing what to expect. - LW

Deer family on Fortune Street
2022-07-15 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Mama deer and her romping twins visited the yard this week. There are just enough trees and brush along the Town Creek for protection that they feel free to wander and look for sweet grasses.

Getting a new sign
2022-07-15 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The 20-year-old Columbia Training and Development Center building on Burkesville Street is getting a new sign and brick washing this summer. The City is pictured removing the old sign which had weathered and faded. A new sign will replace it in that spot, or may be placed in a different spot on the property. Directors of the three partners that run the Center - EDA, Chamber and Tourism - will meet and make that decision.
