CPD welcomes newest officer Trenton Williams

The Columbia Police Department would like to welcome Trenton Williams as the city's newest officer. Officer Williams was sworn in this morning, January 17, 2023, at City Hall. He will attend The Department of Criminal Justice Training's basic training this summer in Richmond.

In the photo, from left to right, are Columbia Police Chief JR Murphy, Trenton Williams, and Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots.

Doug writes, "Coomer's Restaurant, a Columbia institution on the Public Square, opened its doors in 1943 and closed in 1986. Here is a menu from 1978 celebrating its 35th anniversary. Great food & great prices! There are so many stories that are shared even today about this legendary landmark."

Sulphur Creek Kennels thanks for donation

Richard Stephens called to share news of a heartfelt letter of appreciation the family business received for a very special donation Sulphur Creek Kennels had made. SCK donated two pups to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Richard's father and Ryan's grandfather Milton Stephens who was wounded in WWII and received two purple hearts. Ryan Stephens said a friendship has been forged with leader Tim Honnicutt of Michigan Zero Day. Honnicutt sent SCK a wonderful testimonial letter and thank-you for the good Doodles and has become a loyal customer.

Summer Shade Founders Day scheduled

Metcalfe County's Summer Shade Founders Day volunteer planning committee met January 10, 2023 at the Summer Shade Firehouse. Founders Day will be Saturday, May 13th with a car show, parade, local crafters, food, live music, games, and contests. Laura Glass is heading up the Planning Committee this year and looking for input from the community. Anyone can join the group at their next scheduled meeting on January 24, 2023 at 5:30pmCT at the Summer Shade Firehouse, located at 50 Firehouse Lane.
