Rosa Grissom was Columbia's Grandma Moses

Rosa Flowers Grissom's daughter Carrie bought her mother five art lessons from Helen Flatt in the mid-1950s. Rosa began painting at age 80 and became known as Columbia's Grandma Moses. She painted over 100 pieces. In 1966 the Columbia Women's Club held an art show in her honor at the Adair County Public Library.

We passed by this yard on a short cut in town near United Citizens Bank and did a double take Wednesday. There looked to be a carpet of little Crocus blossoms that usually are the first flowers of spring but it's fall.

Gas prices better in Edmonton Wednesday

Gas prices always seem lower on the Glasgow Road in Edmonton. Wednesday afternoon the price per gallon was $3.06 in Metcalfe County vs $3.19 half an hour later back in Columbia.

Common Checkered Skipper

A Checkered Skipper feasting on mid-fall fleabane. Butterflies and Moths of North America says the Common Checkered-Skipper feeds on nectar from white-flowered composites including shepherd's needles, fleabane, and asters.

Happy 98th Venie Allene Moss Coffey

Happy 98th to birthday girl Venie Allene Moss Coffey! Her son Phillip Coffey writes, "Mom is 98 today. She is a very caring person to all and a splendid role model. ’Don’t worry about the trivial.’ Recently I was at her house, opened a cabinet door, a box of crackers fell to the floor. She laughed and said,"If I break a plate, I just say I won’t have to wash that one anymore.”

Venie Allene Moss Coffey was born in Adair County in the Keltner community near Adams Creek. She is the last surviving member of ten children and today resides in Greensburg,Kentucky. She is the daughter of John Marshall and Allie Wood Lee Moss and has four children.
