Portraits, ACHS Class of 1956: Lewis Garrison
2011-05-29 - Cranmer Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt DR, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne. Lewis Garrison: "Everyone knows Lewis Garrison as a major South Central business leader. Everyone in the Class of 1956 appreciate the leadership he gave to getting the reunion together," photographer Shamarie Claiborne writes, "and I think everyone knows what a good, special person he is. I just hope everyone sees in this portrait what I remember: The special role he's played in my life. When a huge rock was blocking construction of our house in The Holler, Lewis worked his magic - with dynamite. A little while, a few blasts, and the site for our wonderful home was ready for construction. Then, again, I guess I'm not the only person who remembers that special thing Lewis Garrison has done for them. I think everyone has that unforgettable memory of the time he was there to help. Thanks, Mr. Garrison, for making Adair County such a wonderful place to live." -Shamarie Claiborne

The Patriot Guard Riders are all volunteers whose services are rendered only at the request of close family members. Their work, at this point, continued with and beautiful farewell tribute graveside to a fellow member of the armed forces of the United States.

Lovely ladies part of Downtown Street Scene
2011-05-28 - 210 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The lost art of window dressing is in revival on the Square in Downtown Columbia. These two mannequins appear almost lifelike in the window of M & P Variety Store. Fittingly, the display is in the part of the building which once housed the late Hattie Lee Willis' Dress Shop, a smart store for women's fashion, a ready-to-wear shop which complemented Herb Taylor's The Men's Shop, next door.
