Owner(s) not Found: Three Dogs now up for adoption

2012-06-18 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Kimberly Gutelius. No longer available from Kimber Gutelius; one adopted, two at Sugarfoot Farm Rescue
No owners have been located and it has become clear that these friendly, people loving dogs were probably just dropped in the neighborhood. The goal now is to find new homes for them. I know the senior black Labrador would love to have a nice place to roam, but where he could spend most of his day sleeping in the shade of the porch. Postcards from the Present: Montpelier, KY

2012-06-18 - Southeast Adair Co., KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com/EW.
A beautiful preservation: Though the store, with its post office with the same zip code as Columbia (remember the mail addressed to your Columbia, KY, home as Montpelier, KY 42728) are closed, the preservation of the general store and proprietor's house is museum perfect, and offers, from any direction, one of the most pleasing sights in America. This view, with the Adair County sign on the right and the Russell County sign on the left, in front of the black outbuildings was taken from KY 92. The road ahead here is pretty as it promises, heading west through Pleasant Hill, Cabin Creek, Beautiful Joppa, and joining KY 55 with an unforgettable view of old Zion Baptist Church and School, now restored for adaptive reuse at Gaddie Shamrock Stone Co. - EW

Business News: Things That Go Bang

2012-06-17 - 2373 Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Ken Mooney,
owner of Things That Go Bang, in the big tent next in the northside parking lot of Adair Gun & Pawn on Campbellsville Road, next to Betty's OK Country Cooking, Columbia, KY, shows just a few of the permits and licenses needed to sell fireworks. He's a commercial pilot, so he's used to red tape, and has found there's lots in this business, too. He got into the business after years of using fireworks to entertain at parties at his farm north of the Pelham Branch Road, Cane Valley Mill Crossroads. He's planning another this year, a few days before the Fourth of July. Things That Go Bang opened June 10, and will be open every day, through July 4th, from 10am until dark with a big line of heavily discounted fireworks.
