Drought stressed tree falls, blocks Fortune Street 2012-07-06 - 100 Block, Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A 12" at the base diameter tree fell across Fortune Street this afternoon and blocked access to some doorways at the Windstream Telecom exchange building and a residence on East Fortune Street. There was no breeze at the time. The tree was "dode" at the base, and apparently fell from heat stress. Residents were waiting for City of Columbia and Kentucky Utilities company workmen to free them from the isolation. The event occurred at approximately 4:30pmCT. The power company removed limbs from the lines and minutes later, Columbia Street Department workers cleared an access lane. It all happened from fall to clearance, in about 2 hours.
